Semuliki National Park

Semuliki National Park

Semuliki National Park, located in the Albertine Rift Valley of western Uganda, is a hidden gem known for its unique ecosystems and extraordinary biodiversity. Covering 220 square kilometers, the park’s landscape is characterized by its lush, lowland tropical rainforest, which extends from the Congo Basin, making it one of Africa’s most ancient and bio-diverse forests.

Semuliki is famous for its hot springs, particularly the Sempaya Hot Springs, which are a major attraction within the park. The hot springs are not only a geological wonder but also hold cultural significance for the local Bamaga people, who believe the springs have supernatural powers. Visitors can witness boiling geysers and bubbling pools, and even cook eggs in the naturally hot waters—a unique and interactive experience.

The park is a haven for bird watchers, boasting over 440 bird species, many of which are endemic to the Albertine Rift. Notable species include the Congo serpent eagle, Lyre-tailed honeyguide, and the Nkulengu rail. The diverse habitats of Semuliki, from swamps and grasslands to riverine forests, support a wide range of avian life, making it a paradise for ornithologists.

Semuliki National Park is also home to a variety of mammals, including forest elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and numerous primate species such as the De Brazza’s monkey, red-tailed monkey, and the black-and-white colobus monkey. The park’s dense forest and winding trails offer thrilling opportunities for primate tracking and wildlife spotting.

The park’s rich flora and fauna are complemented by its cultural heritage. Semuliki is inhabited by the Batwa pygmies, one of Africa’s oldest indigenous tribes. Visiting the Batwa community provides an insightful glimpse into their traditional way of life, their symbiotic relationship with the forest, and their unique cultural practices.

Exploring Semuliki National Park is a journey into an ancient rainforest teeming with life and mystery. Whether you’re marveling at the hot springs, spotting rare birds, tracking elusive primates, or immersing yourself in the local culture, Semuliki offers an authentic and enriching experience that highlights the incredible natural and cultural diversity of Uganda.

Our Travelers Testimonials

The Best in East Africa

We were a group of about 25 people. This was a bucket list trip for us (husband and myself) and Travel Wild did not disappoint. Fabulous from the minute we landed. Everything was perfect. Excellent communication, timing, helpfulness. Beautiful accommodations, friendly helpful people. We stayed busy, but were also offered down time. Travel Wild was patient with my many many email questions and provided prompt replies. It would be a dream to book with them again.

Totally Recommend Travel Wild!

We had travelled with a group of 40 with Travel Wild. Dan was our guide for the 5 day trip which was starting from the Nairobi Airport-Naivasha-Masai Mara Safari and back to Airport. The stay were perfect and Travel Wild was on standby for any/all requirements that we have. We would 100% recommend them and especially travel with Dan as there is never a dull moment while travelling with him.

A Massive Thank-You From A Return Customer!

Having used Travel Wild a few years ago, I was longing to come back to East Africa to explore the region a bit further. One cannot imagine a trip to Kenya or Tanzania without going on safari, however I was wary of taking young children (5 & 7 years old) on such a tour. Travel Wild carefully planned our itinerary taking into account our wishes and specifics of the group which did take some time, therefore thanks a lot for your patience!

Incredible Trip To Kilimanjaro & Mt. Kenya!

My friends and I joined Travel Wild Tours on an 8 day trip to Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and a 5 day trip to Mt Kenya National Park in Kenya. Although the company is based in Kenya, they subcontracted another professional company called Enjoy Kili to lead us on the Kilimanjaro trek in Tanzania. It was a well put together trip with great service. I definitely recommend this company and their Mt Kenya trip!

Amazing, Memorable Tailor-Made Safari Holiday!

Travel Wild (based in Nairobi, Kenya) organised a fully bespoke holiday from us (we are based in London, England) incorporating 5 different destinations across Kenya and full action packed itineraries at each destination, including transport between the locations, guides, domestic flights, and sound advice throughout. We felt thoroughly catered for and in safe hands. The team is always on email and on the phone and we had no qualms. Would recommend using Travel Wild directly from abroad. A holiday of a life time that we won't forget. Thank you to the team.
